COURSE CONTENT: Introducing the students to the basic concepts and methods for understanding and analyzing the main elements of society, culture, social institutions and social relations; getting them familiar with sociological perspective, sociological imagination and the benefits and problems of sociology; develop their understanding on family and its change, on basic social divisions, social stratification and mobility, social change, modernity and post-modernity. While the core of the lectures incorporate mainly these topics, important issues of sociology such as gender order, work, population growth, urbanization, migration, global inequalities and poverty, racism and ethnicities, mass media and environment are discussed with examples from Turkey through different types of activities in class and student presentations.
